This Week In Mail Order

This is a column that I started writing due to my love of vinyl and mail order.  I tend to focus on limited press vinyl, but also occasionally write about CDs. I place strong emphasis on packaging, and DIY aestetics (but not necessary).  This doesn’t necessarily happen every week, but most weeks it does (and sometimes more than once).

Going To…

If you know me… I am a long time Mountain Goats fan, and this series takes its name from the long running series of Mountain Goats songs that start with “Going To.”  XX Merge was the first in this series, and it was all posts related to Merge Records, their 20th Anniversary, and my trip to Carrboro/Chapel Hill (music and non-music related posts).  This series won’t always be in reference to a music event, but occasionally it will…it all depends on where I’m going.

If your band or record label has been featured on the Great Pumpkin, and you would like to donate a copy of the record (silk screened poster, or anything else fancy) to be given away to my readers please do.  I’ve had a pretty good response to the give aways in the past, and I think it is a fun addtion to the blog.

Weekend Recs:

Weekend Recs is basically documenting interesting things going on over the weekend (and typically extends into Monday or Tuesday).  This is by no means a complete list, but a list of things that I am considering (so in theory my recommendations)…If I missed something that you think is awesome, leave it in the comments.  I haven’t been posting recs for during the week because my normal blogging has seemed to cover most of the events I’m interested in, but that might come in the future.

What Ales You:

What Ales You is a beer column that is originally published on the Williamsburg Greenpoint News and Arts site.  This column highlights special and rare beers that are on tap in the Williamsburg and Greenpoint areas of Brooklyn.  Occasionally I will highlight a bar or restaurant that is not known for their beer selection based on tap and bottle lists.
